golem's lair: song/song & Lyrics

"Step right up, push the creaking heavy iron door open, enter the sonic freak show, where you shall close your eyes and dance…Nosferatu Waltz"
Song/song
Dalek Rhetoric
This song derives its title from the Dalek in Dr. Who. They are extraterrestrial killing machines with a binary thinking pattern: you are either a Dalek or they will destroy you. This seems fitting with the mentality of the world we live in, especially the latest invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Heirloom:
Charles: Since I can remember I’ve always been fascinated with north american indian’s culture. Indeed the first movie I ever saw at cinema was “Little Big Man” so I think that’s coming into play. I recently read a biographie about the latest plains indian tribes (“Empire of the summer moon” by S.C. Gwynne, fascinating) and felt like connecting… This song incorporates the Sioux Flag Song and War Dance (from US Library of Congress).
Capitol Blues:
Charles: The song is inspired by the events in January 2021 at the Capitol, Washington D.C. It include a sample from the red-haired loony and another one from a previous -more sinister- dictator -(Godwin’s law box ticked here!). Fun Fact: This song was our first collaboration, Laur & I under the Golem Dance Cult banner.
Laur: I really had no idea if my "darkwavish" voice would work with this song but the groove inspired me. I thought of T.REX but also all the 90s bands that used to mix rock and dance music and let myself go...
Marry Me Frankenstein:
Charles: I always thought Frankenstein-the Monster- was a really loveable character. This one is a love song for the dance-floor!
Laur: Industrial rock'n'roll meets old school horror rock in a trance!
Nosferatu Waltz:
Charles: Last christmas, we blasted the Nutecracker a lot (I guess, it is a family tradition, since for all my childhood at Christmas,Tchaikovsky was played).
I then had this idea for a bass riff variation on it for a while so it flowed naturally from there.
Inga Liljestrom lent us her amazing voice on this one.
As a visual inspiration “Fearless Vampire Killers” was a reference point. The aesthetic of this movie is amazing. It is like an Hammer movie on steroid.
The scene of “the bath” scared the living $%£@ of me when i saw it as a kid. Incidentally, it is one of my daughter’s favorite movie when she was at the age I was when i first saw it.
“Vampiric” wise however, nothing’s beat Bela Lugosi, hence the intro and outro sample.
Laur: Werner Herzog's "Nosferatu The Vampyre" was the first horror movie I ever watched when I was like 10. Once you go black you can never go back they say...Vampire music is in my blood...
Doppelgänger:
Charles: This song Is based on a riff I had for a long time. I wanted the song to be like a towering bass march.
Fun fact: I recorded my vocal while I had a cold playing on the coarse raw aspect of my voice. The drum machine is the same (TR-808) used by the Beastie Boys. What sounds like violin are actually guitar parts (play with lead mic position on a Gretsch).
Laur: While recording my vocals, I was thinking about 70s hard rock meets goth rock, then I realized it had a bit of an Alice In Chains vibe, something I wasn't expecting at first although I really like the band.
(In my time of) Living On Mars:
Charles: This song include a sample of the sound of Mars winds in the intro and in the coda as captured by Perseverance rover (courtesy of Nasa website).
Fun fact: almost all of the guitars are actually cigar box (made in Olney UK).
Laur: Mars and space, Bowie's most cherished themes! This song also brought dust and desert images to my mind. Cowboys in space?

Sioux Flag dance and War Dance
Capitol Blues (Music Charles Why/Lyrics: Laur)
I have nothing left to say
I'm so out of here
I guess it can't be real
Feel like Capitol Blues
Say goodbye
Goodnight, goodbye
To the House
I hate everything you say
I'm so out of reach
Feel like Capitol Blues
Say goodbye
Goodnight, goodbye
To the House
Marry Me Frankenstein (Music Charles Why/Lyrics Laur & Charles Why)
When there's no one to say what you wanna hear
It's hard to look around
When there's nothing to do in your dreams
Creature feature
Don't you know I will be with you on your wedding night?
Marry me Frankenstein
Marry me and will be fine
Marry me Frankenstein
Marry me and let’s get high
When there's nothing to do
When there's nowhere to hide
Will there be anyone to blame?
Life/Punishment
When there's nowhere to go but inside
Just hiding from you
When there's no other choice than livin' alone
Let me run away
Don't you know I will be with you on your wedding night?
Marry me Frankenstein
Marry me and will be fine
Marry me Frankenstein
Marry me and let’s get high
Nosferatu Waltz (Music Charles Why/Lyrics Laur & Charles Why)
As the night falls, it's a cold ride...
Close your eyes and dance
Nosferatu Waltz
In a sea of wonders
Meet me in your dreams
Sleep tight and dream well
And everything will be fine, so fine...
Close your eyes and dance
Nosferatu Waltz
I'll fall if you're pure hearted
Close your eyes and dance
Nosferatu Waltz
In a world of lies
Where reflection fools you
You can be like me
Don't fear me
Close your eyes and dance
Nosferatu Waltz
Unable to die
You can do anything...
Close your eyes and dance
Nosferatu Waltz
Doppelgänger (Music Charles Why/Lyrics Laur & Charles Why)
Somebody told you I was there
And I wasn't, I wasn't there
Somebody told you I did it
But I didn't, I could never have done this
What's wrong with me?
What's wrong with him?
How could I ever know?
What's wrong with us?
What's wrong with you?
Who will ever know?
Take a while to understand
Doppelgänger
Someone saw me walking by
And it wasn't me
Someone said I was the one
But I wasn't, I wasn't there
What's wrong with me?
What's wrong with him?
How could I ever know?
What's wrong with us?
What's wrong with you?
Who will ever know?
Take a while to understand
...evil
Doppelgänger
Some say it must be in my mind
And I don't know, how could I know?
Some say it could be someone else
Then I realized
Someone must be playing tricks on me
Someone must be...
What's wrong with me?
What's wrong with him?
How could I ever know?
What's wrong with us?
What's wrong with you?
Who will ever know?
Take a while to understand
That it was my…evil
Doppelgänger
In my time of (Living On Mars) (Music Charles Why/Lyrics Laur & Charles Why)
I let you know how it feels
Bye-Bye blue Orange
So it seems
And Living on Mars
Sweet dust under my shoes
Do you really want to know what it's like?
I'm singing the same old blues
Over and over again
I let you know how it feels
Bye-Bye blue Orange
So it seems
And Living on Mars
Keeping my eyes wide open
Do you even want to know about it?
I'm trying to understand
Nevermind
I let you know how it feels
Bye-Bye blue Orange
So it seems
And Living on Mars
Some would call it a dream
Don't try to reach me, don't try to tell me
Now listen, touchdown never felt so good
And I'm never coming back
Touchdown never felt so good...
